The Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic fellowship is a short-term exchange program done by the U.S. Embassy in Croatia. The exchange program is a four-week program which gives high school students between the ages of 16 and 18 a chance to explore the U.S.A. and work on their knowledge about foreign policy in general, as well as the specific policies of the U.S. During the exchange 45 students from all European countries and 10 students from America will learn about the foundations and value of democracy as well as international relationships, activism and much more. During their time in the U.S. the students will also get the chance to enjoy and learn more about American culture and way of life by spending time with host families. Furthermore, field trips to cities like Philadelphia and Washington D.C. as well as some local locations will give the students the chance to experience the culture first hand and learn more about the history, architecture and policy in the U.S. The students will also collaborate with local American communities and groups, and help the community by giving service and volunteering.
