The second season of collaboration between MIOC and PMF (Faculty of Science) has officially begun, with a focus on mentoring students through the creation of mini-scientific projects. A total of 24 professors from PMF’s seven departments have agreed to help students conduct research in their areas of expertise. This mentorship opportunity allows students to delve into a variety of scientific topics, from biological ecology to experimental physics, with the guidance of expert professors.
Each mentor has outlined specific topics, such as urban ecology, pet trade, and the effects of urbanization on ecosystems, along with more technical subjects like nanotechnology, geophysics, and mathematical analysis. After the selection process, students and mentors will collaborate to define a research topic and work together over the next few months. The research concludes in a final conference when students share their results.
The application process required students to select one or two mentors based on their interests and submit a motivation letter explaining their choice. Although the registration deadline for this year has passed, those interested in similar opportunities are encouraged to watch out for upcoming projects in the IB newspaper. Especially since the collaboration will also continue next year, so if you missed it this year you can always try out next year.
While only one student per mentor is selected, this initiative serves as a valuable experience for anyone interested in scientific research, providing an opportunity for both academic growth and the development of practical skills. Keep an eye on future announcements for more chances to participate in similar projects.
